Drivetrain testing for electric drive systems
At the KIEPE Test Center, we test complete electric powertrains, from individual electric motors to integrated drive systems, under realistic and reproducible conditions. Our drivetrain tests cover the entire operating range and deliver reliable results for development, validation, and approval.
The tests are performed on powerful test benches that are specially designed for high speeds, torques, and dynamic load profiles.

We support both manual individual tests and fully automated test runs. The test procedures (including those in accordance with EN 61377) can be flexibly adapted to development or approval requirements:
- Determination of performance data, e.g., torque characteristics
- Determination of efficiency characteristics and energy consumption
- Heating test
- System function tests
- System protection and error management test

The following can be tested in particular:
- Electric motors with a focus on:
- asynchronous motors, permanently excited synchronous motors, DC machines
- Speed range up to 7500 rpm
- Torque range up to 7900 Nm
- Inverter-motor combinations
- Complete electric drive units
- Typical target industries:
- Railway and rail vehicles
- E-mobility
- Commercial vehicles
- Industrial drives

For automotive applications, we support performance validation in accordance with ECE-R85. The tests are carried out in the presence of Technical Inspection Association (TÜV) in accordance with the normative specifications and provide reliable results for type approvals.

Drives can be tested under realistic, customer-specific load profiles, e.g.:
- Driving and operating cycles
- Application-specific loads
- Dynamic load changes

In addition to standard tests, we also offer specialized tests, e.g.:
- Thermal limit and endurance tests
- Overload and short-term overload tests
- Acoustic and vibration analyses
Special requirements can be implemented on a project-specific basis.
